Synopsis

The world premiere of Unorthodox, a new musical based on the best-selling memoir by Deborah Feldman. Written by Joshua Harmon with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Shaina Taub, the story follows the parallel journeys of two women: Devoiri, a seventeen-year-old entering an arranged marriage in Brooklyn’s Hasidic Satmar community, and her grandmother Fraida, who arrived in America alone sixty years earlier. One woman chooses to join the devout world, while the other seeks to leave it.
