Synopsis
Written by Jez Butterworth and directed by Loretta Greco, The Hills of California follows the four adult Webb sisters as they reunite at the seaside guest house in Blackpool, England, where they were raised. The story toggles between two timelines: 1955 and 1976. In the past, the four sisters are young girls being fiercely trained by their ambitious mother, Veronica, to become a singing act in the style of The Andrews Sisters. In the present, the sisters have gathered at the family’s guest house as their mother lies dying. As the adult sisters wait for their estranged eldest sister, Joan, they are forced to confront the choices their mother made, the lingering effects of their upbringing, and the unbreakable bonds of their family.
