Synopsis

Luis Alfaro’s Oedipus El Rey is a reimagining of Sophocles’ classic Greek tragedy, set in the heart of Los Angeles. The story follows Oedipus as he dreams of rewriting his own story, but he soon learns that liberation comes at a price. The play explores whether he can truly escape the destiny laid out before him and questions what is defined by fate versus what is merely the result of the system. Described as a searing tale of love, family, and prophecy, the production blends ancient myth with modern urgency, Chicano swagger, and sly humor.

My Review

Contemporary take on the Greek tragedy. Started in a prison, played out in LA, ended back in the prison. Amazing choreography. Party scene.
